I am a freelance writer. I have written many magazine articles about people, places and the cultures of the Four Corners area. I also write about alternative healing methods. I have written three books related to trees. One is a young adult fantasy novel. One is a non-fiction book about the benefits of being around trees; it includes exercises and tools to help us stay more grounded and balanced and to navigate life more gracefully. The other is a fiction picture book about two children who develop a friendship with a cottonwood tree.
As a journalist, I have won awards from the New Mexico Press Association, New Mexico Press Women, the New Mexico Medical Society, and National Federation of Press Women. At various times I have been a correspondent for the Albuquerque Journal and the Four Corners Business Journal, newspaper reporter and bureau chief for The Daily Times of Farmington, NM, and managing editor of the Aztec Independent Review.
My articles have appeared in a variety of magazines from Good Housekeeping, Guideposts and E.P.I.C. to Majestic Living, and New Mexico Magazine.
My ebook, Healing and Growing with Reiki: Exploring Reiki I, II, and III (Reiki Master), is available as a Kindle ebook through amazon.com at http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Growing-Reiki-Exploring-Master-ebook/dp/B0086DXSSO.
Both my young adult fantasy novel, The Healing Tree, and my non-fiction book, Healing with Trees: Finding a Path to Wholeness, are available from Amazon.
If I Were a Tree, What Would I Be? is my fiction picture book for kids ages 5-10. It helps kids understand the joys and mutual benefits of befriending trees. It may be purchased at https://www.ifiwereatreewhatwouldibe.com/ or from Balboa Press.
After retiring as an elementary school counselor in 2005, I now devote my time to freelance writing and to several different kinds of alternative healing work, including Reiki, a form of relaxation and stress relief that helps the body to heal more easily.
I am a Reiki Master and have a PhD in metaphysics, a masters degree in psychology, counseling and guidance, and a bachelors degree in humanities with an English emphasis.
I enjoy reading, hiking, playing the piano and competing in table tennis.
